Tithing/offerings: What’s the big deal?
Ever Feel like the church is only out for your money?
Understanding what Gods’ word says will clarify the motive and the role you play on this subject.
The Bible says in Malachi 3:8-10 (Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings. Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation. Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.)
See the Word of God is the one prompting us to tithe and give to the church. It was His idea and plan behind how the church runs and operates. When we tithe and give we are obeying Gods’ command. All the Pastor does is remind us of that command. But also, do not miss the blessing involved when we obey. God says (Prove me now here with, saith the Lord of hosts, if i will not open you the windows of heaven and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.) We do not give to see what we can get out of God. We give in obedience and through a pure heart, which leads to God providing our needs when we need them.
Proverbs 3:9 says: (Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase:)
This means that everything God gives us, we should stop and take ten percent (Gen 14: 19-20) out of everything first. Before we pay any bills or buy groceries and before anything else. This is how we honor God. If we wait till everything is paid and groceries have been bought, and then give God our ten percent, we have put him last and honored everything else before we even thought of Him. Chances are we will spend that ten percent and never give it to God. Offering account after the tithe has been paid. God ask give to give above that ten percent and to be designated however we please. This is where giving to missions or to other parts of our ministry comes into play. God allows you to decide what your offering should be.
Luke:38 Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.
Investing in the Kingdom of God is laying up treasures in Heaven. Being a giver is acting like God (John 3:16). You can not out give God. Everything we give that pleases God will result in the blessing of God.
